In November 2023, Columbus in Action commissioned BVH Architecture (BVH) to evaluate the potential of renovating the Columbus Theater

BVH examined existing building conditions to determine costs associated with ADA accessibility, safety, heating and cooling, acoustics, electrical, plumbing and structural needs. BVH also conducted a series of listening sessions to gather community feedback and provide direction to the design team on how the theater can best impact Columbus and the surrounding region.

In summer 2024, Columbus in Action conducted a fundraising feasibility study to gather additional feedback and gauge donor interest. In addition, the Columbus In Action board, in partnership with Nebraska Public Power District, conducted an economic impact study to document the positive employment and economic effects associated with the planned theater renovation.

As a result, and after numerous discussions within the greater Columbus community, the Columbus In Action board has agreed to move forward in raising the estimated $8 million needed to renovate the theater. The board unanimously agreed the project would have a positive impact on Columbus and enhance our quality of life.
